Development
The desire to create a comprehensive PSV database dates back to 2011. Former VI journalist Ramon Min and Laurens Valentin, FCG Stats’ database expert, wanted to join forces to make PSV’s professional history accessible online.
The duo took the first steps towards realizing the database in close cooperation with the Eindhoven club ahead of PSV’s centennial in 2013. However, for a variety of reasons the monster project never got off the ground, despite considerable preparation work behind the scenes.
After Min and Valentin built an interactive database about Argentine star player Lionel Messi in 2015, they revived the PSV project under own management in 2020, with the launch of this website on March 17, 2024 as a tangible result.
Sources
The PSV database contains details of the more than three thousand official matches played by PSV since the start of professional soccer in the Netherlands in 1954. They include lineups, substitutions, goals, assists, information on the type of goals and how these goals came about.
A multitude of sources were used for this information: from the magazine Voetbal International to the largest national and regional newspapers, from data agencies such as Opta and the then Infostrada to websites such as Voetbalstats and Transfermarkt. Of course, the standard works ‘Het grote PSV-feitenboek’ and ’80 jaar PSV’ were also of great value.
In order to present significantly more PSV data than all other sources combined, a lot of time was spent enriching data, especially from the years before the Internet era. By viewing countless football footage and summaries from the NOS archives and digging through match reports in old newspapers, we managed, for example, to assign assists to players that have never been recorded before.
The information in the PSV database is maintained with the utmost care. However, there is always the possibility that errors may crop up. Comments and feedback are more than welcome so we can continue to improve the site.
